The Euro 2016 football championship is in full swing and the finals are in sight. But while most people are focused on the matches, Every Can Counts is thinking about recycling! Chaque Canette Compte, the French chapter of this voluntary initiative, has been present in Lille since the start of the championship.
European Aluminium is proud to be a funding partner for the Every Can Counts initiative, which unites brands, can manufacturers, metal suppliers and recyclers with the single aim to encourage recycling ‘on the go’. Even at outdoor festivals and sporting events such as the Euro 2016, consumers should do the same as at home and recycle their cans.
Currently over 70% of cans are recycled in Europe. Collecting cans is an essential part of reaching a circular economy, as aluminium cans can be recycled over and over again without losing their properties.
Volunteers have encouraged supporters in the Lille Fan Zone to recycle their beverage cans in one of the 15 collection points. These collection boxes, placed in strategic locations, have helped to gather nearly 1.5 tonnes of beverage packaging since the start of the championship.
With programmes in ten European countries and now the Euro 2016 partnership, Every Can Counts is clearly a key partner for major events!
